ORIGINS acupuncture clinic is situated in the tranquil riverside village of Hemingford Grey, Cambridgeshire a place where you can totally relax and unwind, before, during and after your treatment.

Whether you have an acute problem, suffer from a chronic illness, or are finding it difficult coping with the stresses and strains of life, ORIGINS acupuncture has a range of treatments that can help.

Symptom relief is nice, but acupuncture, which can safely work alongside conventional western medicine, also aims to shift the underlying patterns of disharmony that are causing symptoms in the first place.

Evidence-based clinical research is discovering how the body responds to acupuncture and its benefits for a wide range of common health conditions. (Below are links to the British Acupuncture Council for fact sheets covering the many conditions treated with acupuncture).

Maxine Blewett BSc (Hons) MBAcC

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Practitioner | Acupuncturist

British Acupuncture Council Member

Maxine is a highly-trained acupuncturist qualified with a BSc (hons) from Middlesex University after studying for 3 years at the prestigious Northern College of Acupuncture.

As a proud member of the UK’s leading regulatory body, the British Acupuncture Council, a Professional Standards Authority registered governing body, you can rest assured that the treatment you receive will be of the highest quality of holistic health care and expertise and follow all ethical, legislative, clinical and safety guidelines.

Maxine has treated patients with a broad range of physical and emotional conditions, focussing treatment on the root causes of the conditions as well as the symptoms and has found this approach often leads to a permanent solution, or provides longer-lasting relief to people suffering from very chronic conditions.

Outside of clinic work Maxine enjoys playing golf, walking her dog and socialising with friends.

TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE (TCM)

The ancient practice of Chinese Medicine has evolved for over 2500 years.  As an experiential medicine this means it was learned and perfected by practice rather than theory and because of its longevity billions of people have been treated with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Traditional Chinese Medicine assesses the body from a broad perspective, incorporating physical, emotional and psychological factors into a single view of the whole body, whilst at the same time considering the impact on well-being of external factors such as lifestyle and environmental influences. Combining this information provides an understanding of your individual pattern of illness so that we can provide you with a tailored treatment, or treatment plan.  Our aim is to reverse the pattern of illness and bring you back to a state of good health and well-being.   Some treatments can be quick to take effect or can take longer if you have had the condition for a long time.  Effects are usually long-lasting as both the symptoms and underlying causes of illness are treated.

At the heart of Chinese Medicine is the concept of Qi (pronounced “chee”).  Qi is the VITAL ENERGY that makes us a living, breathing-being as opposed to a pile of inanimate atoms.  Qi is everywhere - we take it from the air that we breathe and the food that we eat (our diet is so important).  Every time we feel happy we are receiving more Qi and when we are sad our flow of Qi slows down (emotions affect our health).  Exercising will get our Qi moving but laziness and bad posture can make our Qi ‘stagnate’.  For us to be healthy we need lots of good quality Qi to be flowing freely through our body (organs, veins, lymph etc.).  It is when we have a blockage of Qi, or our Qi level is low that we can start to feel unwell.
